CADDO PARISH, LA (KSLA) -

Two people have been taken to the hospital after a collision on Highway 71 in north Caddo Parish that sent one of the vehicles into a nearby bayou.

It happened just after 11 a.m. about a mile south of Hwy 173 (Dixie Blanchard Rd.)

Fire District 7 and Caddo Parish deputies are on the scene. They say it appears a Chrysler van headed northbound and another car headed northbound collided when one of the vehicles crossed the center line and sideswiped the other. It has not yet been confirmed which vehicle crossed into the other lane.

The car wound up some 300 yards away from the collision, landing in Doe Slough Bayou.

Two people in the van were taken to LSU Hospital with injuries that are not believed to be life-threatening. No one in the car was injured.

The southbound lane of Hwy 71 remains blocked and traffic is expected to be slowed in both directions until a wrecker can arrive and pull the car up from them embankment along the bayou.
