SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA) -

A music legend is set to hit the stage Wednesday night at Margaritaville, in what has become something of a tradition whenever a new one opens.

Jimmy Buffett is in town to celebrate the opening of his newest casino, with a concert at Margaritaville's Paradise Theater. The relatively intimate venue seats 900.

Buffett arrived just before 3 p.m. at the Shreveport Downtown Airport in a private jet as a few avid fans looked on, and headed to the casino with a police escort.

It's a relatively rare event, as Buffett only performs at an average of 20 concerts a year. Tonight's concert is expected to last about 75 minutes, but it could go longer.

The concert is set to get under way at 4 p.m., but the partying began Wednesday afternoon, with a Parrothead pre-concert get-together at Chimi V's in Bossier City.

The Pirates of the Red Parrot Head Club hosted the event, which started at 1:30 and ended around 3 p.m., when they headed for the Jimmy Buffet concert.

The non-profit organization is a local chapter of a national organization of Jimmy Buffet fans that like to "party with a purpose," by getting involved in their communities and volunteering.

Traditionally, 'parrotheads' have celebrated Margaritaville openings with tailgating parties, but plans to do that for the Bossier City opening were quashed by the casino, citing parking concerns.
