Shreveport Police have identified the man who died after being hit by several cars along I220 in West Shreveport late Sunday night.
Police say evidence suggests that 51-year-old Curtis Bentley of Palestine, Texas was driving his Mazda 3 west on Jefferson Paige Road when he clipped the center median at Rose Street. Investigators say the car kept going west in the eastbound lane until it hit another median where Jefferson Paige Road goes over I-220. That hit sent the car over a bridge railing and down to the shoulder of I-220, catching fire on the way down.
He survived the crash, but was killed after apparently being run over by at least five vehicles after he got out of his car and attempted to cross the interstate.
Police confirm that officers were called to an incident involving Bentley at the nearby Plantation Inn just minutes before they were notified of the major accident that also turned out to involve him. The call to the Plantation Inn came in at 11:09 p.m. The accident call came in at 11:11.
SPD Cpl. Marcus Hines says the crash remains under investigation, as well as what led up to it. They have interviewed the driver of the pickup truck who first hit Bentley, but they are still trying to identify other drivers involved in the accident.
