DESOTO PARISH, LA (KSLA) -

Louisiana State Police have identified a Logansport man who was killed Tuesday in a single-vehicle crash on U.S. Hwy. 84 west of La. Hwy. 481.

Troopers say that their preliminary investigation reveals that a 2002 Chevrolet truck, driven by 34-year-old David Lovett of Logansport, was traveling west on Hwy. 84 "at a high rate of speed" and drove off the right side of the road. The Chevrolet drove through a ditch, struck a culvert and began overturning.

Lovett was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected from the Chevrolet. He suffered serious injuries as a result of the crash and was transported to DeSoto Regional Hospital where he died.

Alcohol use is suspected. A routine toxicology sample was obtained from Lovett and will be submitted for analysis.

The crash remains under investigation.
