Slain TTPD officer's wife shares family's effort to move on

Fellow officers say goodbye to TTPD officer William Sprague

TEXARKANA, TX (KSLA) - The City of Texarkana has shown an outpouring of support for the family of slain Texarkana, Texas police officer William Sprague. Now, Sprague's wife talks about the family's efforts to move forward while remembering their hero.

"I haven't been able to speak to a lot of you personally, and that is why I chose to be here today and will be at all the other events," Stephanie Sprague to a group gathered at the Texas Roadhouse Restaurant in Texarkana to honor her late husband.

"There are a lot of people in the world that do honor what he did, and a lot of times we forget that as officers' wives because we see the negative so often."

The midday event also served as a fundraiser for officer Sprague's family.

Texas Roadhouse Managing Partner Trent Taylor says the event's goal "is to raise as much money as possible. We like to see if we can get $10,000 from the community to help our fallen officer."

Taylor says the Sprague's family will receive 100 percent of the proceeds from the midday meal. The restaurant employees donated their time to help the family.

But others also came to show their support.

"I work for hospice of Texarkana, and we brought a big order over to help his family," says Stephanie Brazille, supporter.

"My son is a police officer, so it really touched home," says Sharon Hill.

Says Sprague's wife: "It is no doubt in my mind there is a purpose for this and there is good to come out of it and that it is sort of the philosophy we are going with now."
