A driver trapped by a falling tree crashing down on his car as he headed down the road in Minden early Tuesday morning has been freed and rushed to the hospital.
It happened just after 5 a.m. during a heavy downpour on Lee Street near Highway 79.
Police believe the massive tree gave way because of the saturated soil at its roots.
It took the jaws of life to cut 28-year-old Carlton Harris of Homer out of the car. There were no other passengers.
Harris was taken by ambulance to LSU Hospital in Shreveport, because Life Air had been grounded due to weather. He is now listed in good condition.
The roadway was shut down for about two hours.
