A man is accused of home invasion and trespassing after authorities say he entered a Shell Beach Drive home and fled, ending up "half-naked" and on the second floor of an area hospital.
According to a news release from authorities, at around 6:23 a.m. Monday, officers with the Lake Charles Police Department were dispatched to the 500 block of Shell Beach Drive in reference to a disturbance.
Officers said witnesses reported that a black male suspect, later identified as 32-year-old Jessie Ray Bushnell, of Lake Charles, showed up at a home and began knocking on the back door, claiming that he lived there.
The homeowner reported that he told Bushnell to leave his property, but he refused. Bushnell then reportedly took his clothes off on the back porch and emptied his pockets.
Authorities said witnesses came to the aid of the homeowner and Bushnell fled into the nearby garage, which has access to the home.
Bushnell then reportedly attempted to enter the home, but the homeowner pushed him out of the garage, authorities said.
Bushnell then got in his vehicle and sped away.
Authorities said they later located Bushnell's vehicle at a nearby hospital.
"Upon arrival at the hospital, officers were informed by hospital staff that a half-naked black male was running around in the hospital. While searching for Bushnell, Officer Travis VanZuiden was contacted by a victim who claimed Bushnell ran up and removed her purse out of a chair," the release states.
Authorities said Bushnell was located on the second floor of the hospital in a restricted area. The purse theft victim's driver's license was in his possession, authorities said.
Bushnell was booked into the Calcasieu Correction Center and charged with home invasion, theft and criminal trespassing.
Bond in the case is set at $113,000.
