Two drown in private ETX lake

JEFFERSON, TX (KSLA) -

The Marion County Sheriff's office has confirmed that two men drowned Sunday night in a private lake in Jefferson, TX.

According to Chief Deputy Frank Cason, the sheriff's office got a call just before 8 p.m. for a report of a possible drowning at a private lake on Liberty Road. A caller to 911 reported that two men were drowning.

Family members say 33-year-old Juan Andrade Olvera and 32-year-old Daniel Elias Olvera were on the private lake with a jet ski and small flat-bottomed boat. Daniel reportedly became distressed in the water and Juan tried to help. Both became tired and were not able to stay above water.

Marion County deputies and Champion EMS arrived first on the scene and the two victims had already been under water for a significant amount of time.

At that point, according to Cason, it became a recovery effort and not a rescue.

Texas Parks and Wildlife and the Marion County Dive Team arrived and recovered the bodies. The drowning has been ruled accidental.
