CADDO PARISH, LA (KSLA) -

A 51-year-old Hosston man is behind bars after authorities allege that he stole an SUV from a elderly shopper this past weekend.

Caddo Parish Sheriff's Deputies say the incident occurred Sunday evening as a 77-year-old woman was leaving the Hosston Post Office and was approached by a man with a knife.

The man allegedly yelled at the woman and demanded the keys to her 2005 Chevrolet Equinox, deputies say. The woman ran around her vehicle to get away and then threw the man the keys.

On Monday, deputies say a friend of the victim's spotted the stolen vehicle at a grocery store on North Market Street in Shreveport. Deputies were notified and set up a traffic stop at Wells Island Road and Grimmett Drive.

Deputies say they stopped Howard William Snyder Jr. at the traffic stop. He was taken into custody by Sheriff's Cpls. Kevin Stewart, Greg McGee, Michael Vaitkus, William Mikesell and Sgt. Jackie Winston.

Snyder, 51, was booked into the Caddo Correctional Center on an armed robbery charge. Snyder listed his address at booking as the 6300 block of Dogwood in Hosston although he told deputies he is homeless.
