DELHI TOWNSHIP, OH (FOX19) -

Angered by recent revelations that the IRS has been targeting conservative groups, leaders of the Tea Party movement gathered Wednesday night inside a Cincinnati banquet venue called The Farm, where they hosted a national town hall meeting.

Among the organizers is George Brunemann of the Southwest Cincinnati Tea Party, who says he's been targeted personally by the IRS.

"In fact, the IRS agent said on the initial call that the reason was specifically our ‘association with the Cincinnati Tea Party that caused the audit!'" Brunemann wrote on the group's Facebook page.

In a press release announcing Wednesday's event, Brunemann said it's not just Democrats who deserve the blame, though. "We need to find a way to end the habitual use of the IRS as a political weapon by both political parties once and for all," he said.

But it was mostly Republicans who spoke at Wednesday's event. Just before 4 p.m., Sen. Rob Portman (R-Ohio) announced he would be speaking, underscoring the political potency of this group. Cincinnati area Republican Congressmen Steve Chabot and Brad Wenstrup also made remarks.
