SHREVEPORT-BOSSIER CITY, LA (KSLA) -

Detectives with the Bossier City Police Department's Violent Crimes Unit on Friday arrested the suspect in the May 5 drive-by shooting death of 20-year old Devonte Demarcus English of Bossier City.

Alonzo T. Washington, 20, of Shreveport, was taken into custody at his residence in the 500 block of East Stoner Avenue with the assistance of the U.S Marshal's Violent Offender Task Force and Shreveport Police after BCPD detectives obtained a warrant for his arrest on a charge of first-degree murder.
Washington is accused of fatally shooting English by firing gunshots from a car in which he was a passenger. 21-year old Jermarcus Morris of Bossier City also sustained a gunshot wound to the lower leg in the incident.

The shooting occurred at the intersection of Burchett and Wilder Streets in the Barksdale Annex neighborhood as both victims stood on a street corner with a group of people.

First-degree murder applies in cases where a homicide occurs in a drive-by shooting. Detectives also executed a search warrant at Washington's residence.
Other charges are pending against Washington in connection with the shooting of Morris.

Washington was booked into the Caddo Correctional Center and later transferred to the Bossier City Jail. His bond is set at $750,000.
