A kindergartner at T.S. Cooley Elementary Magnet School in Lake Charles read 875 books in one school year.
Sophia Moss is 5 years old, and she loves to read.
"A lot of the days I read books. It's just a couple days I don't read," Sophia said. "I just like reading!"
Sophia read so much, she finished reading most of the books in the kindergarten and first grade section of the T.S. Cooley Elementary library.
"I told Sophia, I said we're going to have to order more books for T.S. Cooley Library because she's read so many of them and enjoys so many of them," said Librarian Mary Lanier.
Lanier loves seeing Sophia's joy of reading.
"This is very unusual for a kindergartner, especially to read this many books in a year's time. Very unusual," Lanier said.
Sophia's father, Carl, thinks it's amazing how much his daughter loves to read. Carl helped Sophia check out books every week from the school library starting at five books and working up to checking out at least 20 books each week.
"She'd be reading instead of sleeping," Carl said. "She loves to read and she does it all the time."
Sophia even turned a book report into a project about her own work.
"The book that I wrote that I made all by myself and my dad helped me make it," Sophia said. A book she appropriately titled, "Sophia's Pet." It's about a turtle with super powers. And at only 5 years old, this reading superstar has a bright future ahead of her.
"It's fascinating. We had a lot of help," Carl said.
"I just thought, 'Oh Sophia, you are on your way!' " Lanier said.
And even though Sophia is just beginning, so is her story.
