CADDO PARISH, LA (KSLA) -

Those who have been to the Caddo Parish courthouse are familiar with the screening system to enter the building. Empty the pockets and walk through the scanner that alerts authorities to illegal contraband.

On Wednesday, Caddo Deputies arrested a man who allegedly stole from another man during this process.

Deputies say they arrested a man going through the security screening at the Caddo Parish Courthouse Wednesday after accusing him of stealing $1,200 from an elderly man who was in line with him.

Deputies took Jutrivan Smith, 20, of the 2900 block of Hardy Street, to the Caddo Correctional Center, where he is expected to be charged with felony theft.

This after deputies say an 80-year-old man placed the money in a tray while it moved through the screening process on a conveyer belt. Once the man had been screened, he went to retrieve his money, but found it missing.

Deputies viewed a video of the screening and identified the man who was in line in front of the victim.

Deputy Tony Dickey went to find the alleged thief, who was spotted on the second floor of the courthouse. Their suspect was waiting to go to court on a previous charge of illegal use of a weapon.

After questioning their suspect, deputies found the victim's money and his money clip in their suspect's possession.
