City of Shreveport braces for severe weather

The City of Shreveport is taking steps to prepare for the potential for severe weather in the area Tuesday afternoon.

In response to forecasts for severe thunderstorms that might produce strong winds and hail through the evening hours, city work crews and first responders are on heightened alert, according to a statement released by the Mayor's office.

Among the preparations, Fire Department rescue units are strategically located throughout the city and prepared to respond as needed. Traffic engineers are also on call to place barricades in low-lying areas susceptible to flash flooding.

The city is also warning citizens to avoid contact with any exposed wires following a storm. Many injuries happen when civilians handle electrical wires lying on the ground or dangling from poles and other fixtures.
