SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA) -

Shreveport Police say an exchange of gunfire between a homeowner who used his firearm to ward off an armed intruder has landed the homeowner in a hospital and the intruder behind bars.

It happened about 9:25 a.m. in the 400 block of Kennie Road, just around the corner from Calvary Baptist Academy. Police say a man who was trespassing on a homeowner's property in South Shreveport shot the homeowner. But that was after the homeowner had first taken his shot.

Police say the homeowner ordered the shooter to leave the property, but the stranger not only refused but also tried to enter the man's home.

Police say the homeowner armed himself and fired a shot thought to ward off Passon. Checking to see if the stranger had left his property, the homeowner left the house. But the stranger, still there, fired a shot from his own weapon, striking the homeowner.

The homeowner was shot at least once in the leg. He was taken to LSU Hospital. His condition is not known.

Authorities, with help from a police K-9, tracked down the stranger to a company in the 9200 block of Linwood and took him into custody.

Joshua Passon, 27, was booked into the Shreveport City Jail on one count of attempted second-degree murder.
