KSLA News 12 Editorial: May 20, 2013-Cancer Study

There is a good chance you or someone you know has been affected by cancer. Now, there is a unique opportunity to do something about it.

The American Cancer Society is looking for local residents to participate in a historic study. Local men and women between the ages of 30 and 65 can volunteer. When people get cancer, the first question is, "What caused it?" In many cases, the cause is unknown. This cancer study will help doctors better understand what factors cause cancer and then be better equipped to prevent it.

Enrollment for the cancer study takes place in late July. It's a way for people from all walks of life to take an active role in the fight against cancer. The contact information is on the screen or you can go to our web site, ksla.com and click on Cancer Study in the Links in the News section.

I'm James Smith.

State Police Supt. Col. Mike Edmonson needs to address this inexcusable behavior directly and restore the public's confidence. He should be fully transparent in his investigation into the matter and should invite an outside entity to look into the matter.

Be on the lookout for kids. They seem to dart out from everywhere. They are certainly not looking out for you; so please look out for them.
