Pedestrian killed by vehicle in Tyler, identity released

TYLER, TX (KLTV) -

On Saturday at approximately 8:50 p.m., police responded to a pedestrian accident that occurred in the 2300 block of West Erwin Street in Tyler.

According to Tyler police, upon officer's arrival, it was determined that Joel Thompson, 58, of Tyler, was crossing the roadway on foot when he was struck by a westbound motor vehicle.

Thompson was immediately transported to East Texas Medical Center where he later died from his injuries. 

The driver of the vehicle was not injured during the accident. Alcohol was not a factor in this incident.

This case is still under investigation.
