Auto dealership holds armed forces day

Posted: Updated:

Saturday was armed forces day, a day to remind us that our military has answered the call every time the country has asked. With a vintage warplane flyover, Peters Chevrolet on Highway 259 in Longview held their second annual armed forces appreciation day.

"It not only recognizes the veterans but sometimes we forget about the troops that are serving right now. This is not a gimmick thing , this is really just an appreciation for our armed forces members. We're just really here to say thanks for everything these guys do," says peters sale manager Scott Peters.

From World War Two through today's Iraq and Afghanistan veterans, all were honored.

"These are super events to appreciate that and its not only Vietnam vets all the fellows in now, all of those," says Vietnam veteran Robert Custer.

"To me it means that people care about us they actually appreciate what we can do for our country and community," says Texas National guard sergeant Jason Halbrook.

Modern and vintage military vehicles were on hand for inspection. For organizers, its a chance to pay due respect to real heroes. And those forgotten heroes, the families of armed forces members.

"There were a lot of times I worried because I didn't know if he was actually coming back or not. There were time I cried. Because I wasn't sure," says Shirley Custer.

The Peters held the event at no cost for veterans, active duty military, and all of their families.
