RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) -

In this week's Politifact Virginia report we get a status check on Governor McDonnell's term in office.

When he ran for office the governor made a promise to help increase the number of babies born healthy in Virginia. The governor pledged to maintain Medicaid eligibility for pregnant mothers and promote education and care for expecting moms.

So did it happen? A check of the Bob-O-Meter declares that promise to have been kept. According to Politifact Reporter Sean Gorman, still births are down and birth weights are up.

"And McDonnell has also said that he was going to accomplish these goals by promoting education and care for pregnant mothers and the state has made strides in getting more pregnant Medicaid recipients to receive prenatal care," he said.
