Recruiting combine will open doors for East Texas football

The top college recruiting services in the country, including ESPN, will be in Tyler. The East Texas Sports Network has organized the first ever Football Recruiting Combine.

The event will be held Sunday at the APEC training facility in Tyler.  The combine will test over 100 of the best area players in multiple drills.

"We're planning on 120 to come from as far north as Texarkana to as far south as Newton," said Chase Colston of  "That part is really been refreshing to see how important something like this has been for East Texas and how quickly parents and coaches and especially kids have been able to jump on board."

With so many recruiting services making the trip, it's a chance to showcase the best of East Texas on a national scale.

"We think this is going to be a huge event," said Bobby Stroupe of APEC.  "We want to bring notoriety to our talent in East Texas. We want to help the coaches of East Texas get publicity to these kids and help these athletes get recruited.  A lot of people get to compare in Dallas and Fort Worth and Houston, the talent and they largely judge our talent by the size of cities and we want to try and break down that barrier and expose our kids on the national level."

Athletes in attendance will also hear advice on how to handle the recruiting process.  Stroupe says he hopes the combine becomes an annual event.
