HAWKINS, TX (KLTV) -

A bus taking children to school Monday morning was hit by another vehicle at a railroad crossing.

According to police, at around 7:30 a.m., a bus loaded with students was heading southbound on FM 14 toward the school in Hawkins. The bus activated its caution lights.and stopped at the railroad tracks at Hwy 14/Hwy 80.

While the bus was stopped, a car hit it from behind.

Hawkins police checked out the students. None of the students complained of or displayed any injuries, according to Hawkins ISD Superintendent Dan Rose. The bus was moved off the roadway into the school's property, which is very nearby.

The children were then examined by the school nurse, Rose said, and were told if they had any aches and pains later in the day to come back to see her.

A few children were checked out of school to either go home or to be checked out by their own doctors. The superintendent said that this number was about eight.
