MEMPHIS, TN (KSLA) - The man wanted in connection with the deadly shooting of a Shreveport man is behind bars at Caddo Correctional Center.
Andrew Smith, 19, was returned to Louisiana after he was arrested Sunday on an outstanding warrant in the May 7 shooting death of Prentiss Britton, 21. Acting on a tip, Tennessee state and federal authorities found Smith at his mother's home in Memphis. Smith was taken into custody without incident.
Shreveport police say that authorities with the Memphis Police Department, along with assistance from agents with the United States Marshals Fugitive Task Force, were instrumental in Smith's arrest.
Britton was found shot to death in the parking lot of the Cooper Road Apartments on the night of May 7. Witnesses told police that the gunman shot Britton several times at close range, even after he fell to the pavement.
As the investigation into the case continues, police say additional information regarding the capture of Andrew Smith will be forthcoming.
Smith's mother, 36-year-old Demetrice Smith, was arrested over the weekend and charged with accessory after the fact to second degree murder.
Police say she played a key role in assisting her son avoid capture by authorities.
