SPAR kick starts month long water safety events

The issue of water safety took center stage in Shreveport at the annual pool open house. It's hosted by Shreveport Public Assembly and Recreation, better known as SPAR.

Kids splashed in the water at the Airport Park Pool on Saturday, but before they could play, they got a lesson in pool rules. The Shreveport fire department even stopped by to give a water safety demonstration. "They showed the community how to properly put on a life vest, you'd be surprised how many people don't know how to put a life jacket on the proper way," said event organizer Terrence Jefferson.

The group will be holding open houses all month long.

Saturday, May 18th - Bill Cockrell (4109 Pines Road) / 11am-1pm

Sunday, May 19th - David Raines (2920 Round Grove Lane) /  2pm-4pm

Saturday, May 25th – Querbes (3500 Beverly Place) /  11am-1pm

Sunday, May 26th - Southern Hills (1002 Bert Kouns) /  2pm-4pm

SPAR pool open house activities will provide youth and adults an opportunity to meet pool lifeguards for the upcoming summer season.
