SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA) -
Shreveport police have arrested the mother of the man wanted in connection with a deadly shooting earlier this week in north Shreveport.
Just before midnight on Friday, police investigators say they arrested 36-year-old Demetrice Smith, who they say played a key role in assisting her 19-year-old son Andrew Smith avoid capture by authorities.
Andrew Smith is accused of shooting 21-year-old Prentiss Britton on Tuesday night at the Cooper Road Plaza Apartments in the 2900 block of Peach Street.
Witnesses told police that the gunman stood over Britton and pumped as many as a dozen bullets into him. Britton died about an hour later at LSU Medical Center.
Demetrice Smith has been booked into the Shreveport City Jail, charged with accessory after the fact to second degree murder. Police are still looking for her son.
A warrant has been issued for his arrest on a charge of second degree murder.
