CADDO PARISH, LA (KSLA) -

The driver of a pickup truck that collided with an 18 wheeler late Friday morning north of Shreveport had to be cut free and flown to the hospital, but he is expected to survive.

Ernest Lee Meriwether, 53, was flown by Life Air medical rescue from the wreck that occurred in the 6600 block of Highway 71N in Caddo Parish, just north of Shreveport just before 11 a.m. 

Meriwether, who had to be cut from the vehicle, was flown to LSU Hospital with serious, but non-life-threatening injuries.

One witness on the scene reports seeing Meriwether's 2006 Dodge pickup truck heading north on Hwy. 71 cross into the southbound lane, striking the rear wheels of the 18 wheeler box trailer.

The driver of the 18-wheeler, 63-year-old Gary Lynn Minick, was not injured.

The Caddo Parish Crash unit is investigating. No citations have been issued.
