American Basketball Association team owner Jerry Nelson announced Thursday he will relocate the Mavericks to Shreveport-Bossier.
SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA) -
Jerry Nelson, co-owner of an American Basketball Association team, announced he will relocate his team to Shreveport-Bossier. The Mavericks will start play in November.
The team was formally called the Southeast Texas Mavericks, winning back to back ABA championships in 2010 and 2011.
The area has watched three professional sports teams leave the area in the past three years. Nelson said during Thursday's press conference that they will market the team however necessary to make this team a success in the area.
"Our goal is to have butts in the seats," said Nelson. "You want to sell tickets that's the business man in me, and no I don't like losing money but the fact is, Rome wasn't built in a day."
