MILLER COUNTY, AR (KSLA) -

Arkansas authorities revealed on Thursday the target of an alleged murder-for-hire scheme that led to a woman's arrest Wednesday.

"It is unimaginable. Here I am in the middle of something that I can't believe it."

Kevin Mercer says he is fortunate to be alive after an apparent attempt by his wife to have him killed failed.

"She was wanting to take me out and I don't know why and I don't know if I'll ever know why."

Mercer's wife, 46-year-old Kelly Mercer, made her first court appearance before Miller County Judge Jim Haltom. Kevin Mercer, joined by friends, were at the courthouse.

"I hope God and the judge be lenient to her so she can get the help she really needs."

Waiting outside the court was the would be hitman. The friend of Kevin Mercer says he that Kelly Mercer approached him to kill her husband.

"I knew that I had to just save my brother. You know, I was just taken aback. I was stunned. I am still stunned. I don't know what to think now," Adams says.

Mercer says he might not be alive were it not for Adams.

Kelly Mercer was arrested on one count of solicitation to commit capital murder. Bond was set Thursday at $50,000.
