Unanimous 2013 Great American Conference Player of the Year and unanimous All-GAC First-Team selection, David Harris, has been named as a semi-finalist for the 2013 Tino Martinez Award as it was announced by College Baseball Lineup on Wednesday.
Harris, a native of Houston, Texas, is among the 40 semi-finalists and is also one of the top-five selections from the Central Region.
To date, Harris has a .358 average with 72 hits in 201 at-bats. He also has an impressive .672 slugging percentage as he has racked up 37 extra-base hits (21 doubles, 10 homeruns, and six triples). His 60 RBIs lead the team and the GAC and also rank Harris in the top-20 nationally.
Initial nominations for the award were made by baseball sports information contacts and media members. A panel of media, coaches and sports information officers will be polled to finalize the candidates. The group will once again vote on the finalists, with a fan Internet vote also contributing to the crowning of the winner.
The finalists are scheduled to be named on Monday, May 20th. The winner will be announced after the conclusion of the DII Baseball Championship held in Cary, NC from May 25th to June 1st.
