SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA) -

An ArkLaTex student is behind bars for allegedly bringing a gun onto a school campus.

Shreveport police say they arrested 17-year-old Radarin Young Friday, May 3rd at Fair Park High School in the 3200 block of Greenwood Road for having a semi-automatic weapon. Police say off-duty officers were told that Young may have had a gun in his backpack. When police searched Young's backpack, they found a .22 caliber semi-automatic handgun.

Young was taken to the Shreveport City Jail. He is charged with carrying a weapon on school property and having a gun in a Firearm Free Zone.

Police have not determined why Young brought the gun to school and are still investigating.
