Politifact Virginia: Congressman Bob Goodlatte and background checks

RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) -

In this week's Politifact Virginia report, when it comes to creating new gun laws- many gun rights supporters argue the laws currently on the books aren't enforced enough.

When it comes to background checks, Virginia Congressman Bob Goodlatte recently said "enforcement is down 40 percent overall in his administration,"…the administration being Barack Obama's.

Is that true? Does the Obama administration have that poor of a record on enforcement? According to Politifact Virginia Reporter Sean Gorman, that claim is "half true".

"And what he's saying doesn't take into account that while he is right on the numbers, under Barack Obama as well as former President George W. Bush the actual percentage of suspected perjury cases were actually prosecuted. Under both presidents it was a small percentage," said Gorman.
