A man who was serving time for a violent crime was captured near Jackson, Mississippi, hours after his escape from the Natchitoches Parish Detention Center Friday morning.

Derrick L. Evans, 29, of Natchitoches, was caught about 5 p.m. by the U.S. Marshal's Fugitive Apprehension Unit, which was joined by the Natchitoches Parish Sheriff's Office.

Evans was serving time for attempted manslaughter and possession of a firearm by a person convicted of a felony. Now will serve time in a Mississippi jail until he can be extradited to Louisiana at a later date, authorities say.

No one was injured during the intensive manhunt, Chief of Investigations Greg Dunn says.

Authorities intend to investigate to determine if anyone assisted Evans in his escape.

Involved in the investigation and arrest were: U.S. Marshal's Fugitive Apprehension Unit, NPSO Criminal Investigations Division, NPSO High-Tech Crime Unit, NPSO Patrol Division, NPSO Corrections Division, and the Natchitoches Drug Task Force.
