A Caddo Magnet High School student is in jail facing felony charges after allegedly damaging property at the school and biting a responding police officer.
Shreveport Police say 18-year-old Justin Washer was arrested after committing battery on a school liaison officer who was attempting to restrain the teen after he was found to have destroyed property in one of the school restrooms. According to police, one of the toilets had been dislodged from the floor.
It happened around 11:20 a.m. Tuesday. Washer was allegedly showing signs of intoxication, including smelling strongly of alcohol, according to officers on the scene.
Cpl. Marcus Hines says the liaison officer was bitten at least twice on the arm by Washer.
Both were taken to LSU Hospital to be checked out - the officer for his injuries, the student for any communicable diseases.
Washer has since been booked into the Shreveport City Jail and charged with felony criminal property damage, felony battery of officer, resisting with force, public intimidation of an officer, and simple battery on school teacher. Cpl. Hines was unable to provide details on what led to the charge of battery on a school teacher.
