Texas Fire Marshall's Office seeks clues to Mt. Pleasant apartment fire

MT. PLEASANT, TX (KSLA) -

The Texas Fire Marshall's Office is headed to Mt. Pleasant to find out what caused the apartment fire that forced 16 families from their homes Sunday night.

Fire investigators say that they are looking for signs of arson.

Firefighters say the fire damaged more than 12 units at the Pine Ridge Apartments, located in the 300 block of Lakewood Drive in East Texas.

"We only had 7 guys on duty, so it was quite a load for those guys to do, but they did a really good job getting it stopped pretty quick. Eventually we had about 49 firefighters on scene from surrounding departments," says Mt. Pleasant Fire Chief Larry McGee.

Firefighters say they were able to get the fire under control in just 15 minutes. Two apartment units were destroyed and 14 were damaged by fire and water.
