NATCHITOCHES PARISH, LA (KSLA) -

Natchitoches Parish Sheriff's Detectives have arrested a second suspect in connection with the April 7 murder of Derrick Wayne Howard of Natchitoches, according to Natchitoches Parish Sheriff's officials.

Deputies say Christopher Kelly (aka "Lil Ward", "JoJo Ward"), 20, of the 1400 block of Georgia Ann Street, Natchitoches, turned himself in to sheriff's detectives. Kelly was been booked into the Natchitoches Parish Detention Center and charged with one count of second-degree homicide in connection with the Howard murder.

Howard's body was found on April 7 by a couple traveling on the Old River Road just north of Natchez. The body was found lying in a field off of the roadway. Howard, 32, of the 1200 block of Berry Avenue, was pronounced dead at the scene by the Coroner's Office.

The arrest of the first suspect, Joseph Besant III (aka Monster), 35, of 500 North St., came on April 19 while he was already behind bars on an unrelated charge at the Natchitoches Parish Detention Center. Besant also was charged with one count of second-degree homicide.

Sheriff Jones says, "... detectives followed all leads, and evidence in this case.  We are proud to announce that we have the suspects in custody that committed  this senseless murder.  This was a total team investigative effort."

Both suspects were on felony probation at the time of their arrests.

No bond has been set.

The case will be turned over to the Natchitoches Parish District Attorney's Office for prosecution.
