SPD kick starts annual anti-cruising initiative

Posted: Updated:

Shreveport Police kick started their annual cruising crackdown on Sunday.

Police say cruising is the motorized version of loitering, and that it can lead to congested roads and even crime. This year the initiative will add a dozen more patrols on the streets specifically looking for offenders.

Shreveport police say the more than 5-year initiative has been paying off. "It's actually been very effective, we've seen a reduction in the number of persons who take to the streets, who engage in this behavior. I think we've been very successful in our efforts, the word is getting out there," said Marcus Hines of the Shreveport Police Dept.

The increased patrols will last through the end of the summer.
