Hope Magazine has been in existence only one year, but the non-profit has accomplished so many things in a short time.  Founded in August 2012, CEO Marcus Smith said he had a vision.  He wanted to open the eyes of others to things going on around them.

A couple of month's ago, the magazine did a cover photo and story dedicated to Caddo Parish Commissioner Joyce Bowman.  Bowman told her story of fighting lung and brain cancer, but how her faith keeps her going.  She has not given up and continues to have hope.  This month (April) the magazine is focusing on Autism Awareness.

Saturday night, the magazine held a "White Party with a Purpose" to spotlight autism.  Tabatha Taylor, Executive Director of the Odyssey Foundation was the speaker for the event.  Taylor has a son with autism who is about to graduate from high school.  Taylor talked about the day her son was diagnosed as being on the autism spectrum and the challenges she has had in making sure others understand the brain disorder.

One in 88 children are diagnosed with autism.  The Hope Magazine team wore handkerchiefs designed with puzzle pieces.  The puzzle piece reflects the mystery and complexity of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). Taylor was presented $500 from Hope Magazine to help her Odyssey Foundation.

KSLA Anchor Domonique Benn, "Hope Anchor of the Year" Award

Rev. Jimmy Smith

State Representative Barbara Norton, "Shine Bright Like a Diamond" Award
