Steven Spann and the Northwestern State baseball team held Lamar to a no-hitter through five and one-third innings before the Cardinals put together two big innings to defeat the Demons 11-1 in seven innings on Saturday afternoon in Southland Conference action.

Spann (2-3) held the Lamar (29-11, 8-6 SLC) to no hits until V.J. Bunner broke through with a chopper to third base. From there, the Demons (11-29, 2-12 SLC) allowed a four-run sixth inning and a seventh inning that saw six runs score before recording an out.
Eric Harrington (6-1) kept the Demon offense quiet seven innings pitched and only one run on four hits and five strikeouts.
After Bunner reached on the single in the sixth, he advanced to second on a on a groundout from Seth Dornak and got to third on an error by second baseman Mitch Huckabay.
Bunner scored on a single from Aaron Olivas, and Garret Autrey scored when Zach Luevanos singled to left center. Sam Bumpers drove in Olivas and Luevanos on a double to left field.
The seventh inning had six runs scored, and all were knocked in on five doubles including a two-run double from Olivas that scored Autrey and Dornak.
Brad Picha's double scored Darian Johnson. Picha scored on a double from Bunner, who scored when Dornak hit a two-bagger down the left field line. Finally, Luevano doubled to right center to score the final run in Olivas.
The first run of the game was scored by Lamar in the third inning when Olivas scored an unearned run after Bumpers hit a grounder to shortstop with no outs.
The Demons lone run came in the fifth inning when Garrett Killgore doubled to right center to score Matt Burns, who reached on a leadoff single up the middle.
Spann pitched 5.2 innings for NSU and allowed five runs (none earned) on three hits and four walks. Both Zach Krebs and Dillon Crain allowed three runs each without recording an out.
Olivas had two hits in three at-bats with three runs batted in and three runs scored. Luevanos was two-for-three with two RBI and one run scored.
