East Texas family's property target in rash of arson fires
BOWIE COUNTY, TX (KSLA) -
The Bowie County Sheriff's Department and the Texas State Fire Marshal's Office are investigating another arson fire near DeKalb, Texas.
Emergency crews were called to the latest fire at a home on County Road 4251 in the Garland community around 3 a.m. Wednesday morning. Firefighters found the home engulfed in flames when they arrived. The was destroyed in the fire. Fortunately, no one was home.
Officials say there have been six fires in the area since January. All of the fires were at property belonging to the Betts family. Within the last couple of weeks, investigators say someone attempted to burn a storage shed and another home.
Members of the Betts family would not talk to KSLA News 12 on camera Wednesday, but said they don't think police are doing enough to stop the rash of fires.
