SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA) -

A homeless man is fighting for his life after being attacked by a machete-wielding man late Tuesday night in Shreveport.

Shreveport police say the gruesome attack took place just after 10:30 p.m. in a wooded area in the 6800 block of Westport Avenue. Police say 28-year-old Matthew Snider and 43-year-old Eugene Bunn got into a fight after Bunn started a fire near Snider's part of the camp.

Police say Snider grabbed a machete and slashed Bunn several times. Bunn was rushed to LSU Medical Center with life-threatening injuries. He is currently in critical condition.

Two witnesses and a K-9 unit helped officers find Snider who had run away to hide in the woods. Snider is charged with attempted second degree murder.

Charges are pending against Bunn for setting the fire. The SFD Arson Unit is investigating the fire.
