PALESTINE, TX (KLTV) -

Palestine police arrested a fugitive on Monday after the man led authorities on a three day search.

Police say Jorge Mendoza, 30, was reported to be at a disturbance on Crest Drive in Palestine on Saturday. When police arrived, Mendoza, who was wanted on several felony charges, had left the scene.

On Monday afternoon, Palestine police received another tip on Mendoza's location. When authorities responded to South Church Street, they were unable to locate the fugitive. Shortly afterwards, police received another tip that an Hispanic male was trying to breaking into a house in the 700 block of Lamar Street. When police arrived, they were again unable to locate Mendoza.

Police continued searching and a Palestine police officer located Mendoza hiding in a garage in the 800 block of Lamar Street. The officer determined that Mendoza was armed with two handguns. Officers from the Palestine Police Department, Anderson County Sheriff's Department, Texas Department of Public Safety, the Texas Department of Criminal Justice and the U.S. Marshal's service responded to the scene and set up a perimeter.

During the ensuing standoff, authorities say Mendoza held a gun to his head, saying he wasn't going back to jail. A hostage negotiator was brought in and, after several hours, police were able to convince Mendoza to give up one of his guns. However, officers were able to see that he still had a revolver. After several more hours, police were able to convince Mendoza to surrender. He was taken into custody without any shots fired.

There is no information about additional charges that Mendoza will face at this time.
