PLAIN DEALING, LA (KSLA) -

Authorities with the Bossier Sheriff's Office and the Plain Dealing Police Department arrested a Plain Dealing man Monday after counterfeit $20 bills were passed along at two businesses there.

Arthur R. Stewart, 51, of the 200 block of Ford Road was arrested by an agent with the Bossier Financial Crimes Task Force after the Plain Dealing Police Department determined that Stewart allegedly bought items from one store and attempted to buy items at another store.

Deputies accuse Stewart of buying a couple of drinks from the Phillips 66 with a counterfeit $20 and later attempting to pass a couple of fake $20 bills in exchange for a $30 phone card at the Dollar General in Plain Dealing.

Officers say they contacted Stewart and found an additional $665 in counterfeit bills in $20 and $5 denominations on him.

Stewart also was found to have an active warrant on him out of the Bossier Sheriff's Office for simple battery.

Authorities say Stewart admitted to passing the counterfeit money and was arrested and charged with two counts of monetary instrument abuse and the warrant charge. He was booked into the Bossier Maximum Security Facility.
