SFD: 10 people homeless after house fire; firefighter injured

SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA) -

10 Shreveport residents are homeless Monday night after a fire destroyed their home. One Shreveport firefighter was taken to a hospital for possible heat exhaustion.

Asst. Chief Fred Sanders says firefighters got the call at 7:16 p.m. By the time they arrived at 7:20 p.m., the house at 1737 Vivian St. had smoke and flames shooting from the east side of the house. 30 percent of the structure was damaged.

Of the 10 people who lived there, 9 of them, including 8 children, were at home at the time of the fire. All evacuated safely, Sanders says.

Red Cross will provide them with a place to stay tonight, Sanders says.

The firefighter was treated at the scene before being taken to a hospital.
