SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA) -

Shreveport Police have arrested a man accused of trying to hold up a local Waffle House at knife-point early Monday morning.

Officers were called to the Waffle House restaurant in the 5100 block of Monkhouse Drive just after 3:30 a.m. for a report of an attempted armed robbery. Witnesses told officers that a man came in to the restaurant, went up to an employee and told them that he had a gun and a knife before demanding money.

The employee told the man that she would get the money for him, before heading to the back of the business and notifying police.

Once he realized the employee had outwitted him, he left the scene empty-handed, only to be captured moments later by quick responding patrol officers.  The suspect, identified as 35-year-old Jason Meshell of the 6800 block of West 70th Street, was arrested and charged with attempted armed robbery.

Authorities also seized the knife described by witnesses as used by Meshell during the robbery attempt.  Meshell remains jailed at the Shreveport City Jail.
