The Centenary baseball team wrapped up the top seed in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Tournament in two weeks with a 5-1 victory over Austin College on Sunday afternoon at Shehee Stadium.
The SCAC Baseball Championship is Apr. 25-28 in Georgetown, Texas at Southwestern University.
The Gents rode the arm of senior Cole Thompson and 10 hits en route to the win.
Thompson, one of six seniors honored following the win, garnered his fifth win of the season while fanning nine in the decision. The complete-game marked his fifth on the campaign as the lone run surrendered on six hits was unearned.
The Maroon and White posted a run in the second and third inning to capture the lead and never look back.
Zachary Stephenson and Marc Martinez drove in the two runs. Stephenson singled through the right side to score Christian Sebastien in the second while Craig Littleman scored on Martinez's sacrifice fly in third.
The Gents held the 2-1 lead until the seventh frame when Ryan Gasporra tripled to center field to score Matt Creamer who led off the inning with a bunt single. An inning later, Creamer would log his own RBI with a single to right field to score Stephenson who singled two batters earlier to push Nic Parrott across the dish.
Stephenson, Creamer, Gasporra and Craig Littleman each logged multiple hits in the contest.
Todd Takabuki (2-2) was saddled with the loss in four innings of work. Takabuki allowed two runs – both earned – on five hits while walking four and registering three strikeouts.
The Roos run came in the opening inning as a pair of miscues allowed Tyler Appelquist to score.
Centenary returns to action on Wednesday, Apr. 17 against cross-town foe Louisiana State University-Shreveport. First pitch at Shehee Stadium is scheduled for 6 p.m.
