SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA) -

Shreveport natives Joe Bluhm and William Joyce accepted the 2013 Christopher Award Wednesday for their book: The Fantastic Flying Book of Mr. Morris Lessmore. The charming book is about a writer who becomes dejected after losing everything in a hurricane. The writer soon rediscovers the power of stories. The book was on the New York Times best seller list for 11 weeks. It was number 1 for five week.

"The award recognizes affirming human spirit, as you can see on the medallion, it says better to light one candle than to curse the darkness. And I think it shows that you're building and showing positivity, and encouraging inspiration in people. That makes us feel very happy because it's not just cartoons or entertainment, we're also trying to inspire humans" Joe Bluhm, illustrator of The Fantastic Flying Book of Mr. Morris Lessmore, says.
