BOSSIER CITY, LA (KSLA) -

Bossier City police currently have Benton Road closed from Viking Drive to Melrose Avenue due to a single-vehicle crash that damaged a power pole at the intersection of Benton Road and Tilman Drive.

Southbound traffic on Benton Road is being diverted to Viking Drive. Northbound traffic has been directed to Shed Road, Bossier Police spokesman Mark Natale says.

The accident happened about 7:30 p.m. when a northbound pickup truck lost control, causing the truck to run off Benton Road and hit the pole. The driver of the truck suffered what appeared to be non-life threatening injuries and was taken to a local hospital for treatment.

Natale says that no power lines were knocked completely down, but lines are sagging low because of the accident. SWEPCO crews are on the scene to repair the damage and restore power. The pole that was damaged had about 20 foot section  sheared off at the bottom, he says.

AEP SWEPCO crews are on the scene. They tell police they hope to have a new pole in place by Friday morning. Until then, police say that will keep that portion of Benton Road closed.
