BOWIE CO., TX (KSLA) -

Texas DPS has identified the man hit and killed late Wednesday night in Bowie County, as well as the driver of the car that hit him.

Investigators say 37-year-old Paul Keith Butler of Texarkana was hit as he walking along FM 2516 near Quail Brook in the Liberty Eylau area just before 10:00 p.m.

Texas DPS troopers say it wasn't long before a motorist spotted Butler lying motionless in the road. The driver then reportedly went to a nearby convenience store to call 911.

That's when an employee at the store reportedly realized he had hit the man while driving to work. 21-year-old Christopher Michael Plummer of Texarkana told investigators he thought he had hit a deer.

The crash is under investigation. No word if the driver will face any charges.
