Clarksville woman, 60, found with head injury later dies
CLARKSVILLE, TN (WSMV) -
A 60-year-old Montgomery County woman died of her injuries Tuesday after she was found unconscious and in critical condition at her residence Sunday morning.
The incident occurred at a home in the 700 block of Central Avenue.
Around 9:15 a.m. Sunday, police were called to the home after a man found his mother, Ethel Adamson, on the bed, unresponsive and with an injury to her head.
He said when he left the residence around midnight, the door was locked, but was found unlocked when he returned home.
There were no signs of forced entry. She was taken to Vanderbilt Medical Center by a medical helicopter.
Police said Adamson died Tuesday afternoon. The death will be investigated as a homicide.
"It hurts bad," said close friend and neighbor Jerri Willhite. "I was told she was bad, but I prayed for the best. I tried to prepare myself the best I could, but there's no way to prepare yourself for someone you care about."
Over the past six months, Willhite said she developed a deep bond with Adamson, a recent widow and animal lover. For Willhite, Adamson's mysterious death has been hard to handle.
"Whoever did this, I hope they pay," said Willhite. "I really do. I hope they're not stupid enough to come back and me be next."
Neighbors said they're remembering Adamson as the woman on her porch, always offering something to eat to anyone walking by. For Willhite, this is a loss of a truly great friend.
"I know she's in heaven, and I know she's in no pain," said Willhite. "I'm thankful for that. She's a wonderful woman."
Anyone with information or who saw anyone around the area on April 6 and 7 are asked to call police.
