Is this a permanent process?

The operation is definitely permanent. (At least we intend for it to be so.) The procedure certainly could be reversed surgically, but it would of course require another major surgical procedure and the end results could be the regaining of all lost weight. Staple failure has occurred in the first six weeks postoperatively, due to excessive upper pouch filling and associated vomiting; therefore, a "gooey" liquid diet for six weeks after surgery must be followed religiously.
