ETX woman charged with attempted murder of police officer

MARSHALL, TX (KSLA) -

An East Texas woman is behind bars, charged with attempted murder of a police officer.

Marshall Police were called to a home in the 700 block of West Burleson just before 4 p.m. on Friday, where a woman had barricaded herself inside her home and was reportedly armed.

As the standoff continued, police say it was learned that 32-year-year Kelly Ann Tibbets was armed with a rifle.

Police say several rounds were fired by Tibbetts at officers before they were able to get her to surrender and come out of the house.

Tibbetts was placed under arrest for Attempted Capital Murder of a Peace Officer and transported to the Harrison County Jail.

Attempted Capital Murder of a Peace Officer is a 1st Degree Felony and punishable by imprisonment in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice for life or for any term of not more that 99 years or less that 5 years and a possible fine not to exceed
$10,000.
